This 9th edition of Tensky Talks, we had special
interview guest with VVYND a.k.a Kevin Wiyarnanda. An rising up vocalist from
Jakarta. Last year, he released a single titled Overload and his debut single
making up into 250,000 plays on Spotify and receiving many supports from musicians
in Indonesia. Beside as a vocalist, he also working as PR & Media Relations
in Ismaya Live. In this interview, we’re talking a lot about his vision &
dreams, music’s growth in Indonesia and his involvement in a band called Ariel Nayaka & The
Blue Room Boys that will share new vibe for many music enthusiasts. We're also having a good time interview with Kevin himself.
Hi ! Could you introduce yourself ? Why using VVYND as your
name ?
Kevin : Hi my name is Kevin Wiyarnanda also known as VVYND
(read VWIND). Sebenernya kenapa pake nama itu adalah 3 months after I release
my song, theres an American producer with similar name that I use & timnya
mereka kontak aku. They say mereka yang udah duluan pakai nama itu. So, I
change the name, with all big letter, tapi bacanya tetep sama gitu aja.
Since when you start singing ?
Kevin : Since when ya…haha. Sebenernya aku mulai suka
bernyanyi depan publik ini sejak umur 11, kelas 6 SD sih. Waktu itu ada
kompetisi nyanyi 17 Agustus an and I won the competition. After that, I start
to perform in many school events and then I just love the feeling of performing
& sharing my passion to everyone in stage & audiences. Many people
responded on that.I really enjoy the vibe when sharing them to peoples.
Any desire to perform on We The Fest this 2018 ?
Kevin : Hmm, Well…its seems I will be performing this year
with Ariel Nayaka & The Blue Room Boys. Mereka bakal mengundang teman-teman
yang udah pernah tampil di Hatchi pada saat acara The Blue Room Boys. So its
gonna be exciting & fun karena I’ll be working at the same time and put an
hour aside to perform. I think gonna be interesting. Finally its happening. To
perform in the event that I’ve been a part for 3 years.
So we can say it’s a big dream come true for The Blue Room
Boys and whoever performing before that have a chance to performing in big stage…
Kevin : Yeah, karena Ariel’s big dream is start a scene by
doing The Blue Room Boys show in Hatchi for 3 months. He really did create a
scene. Educating people that there is a place that we can jamming & singing
together Hip-Hop & RnB in english in Jakarta. He gave a platform for me to
sing and everyone’s too in Blue Room Boys session. I really thankful &
grateful to be the part of this. I could share my passion with everyone and
audiences could enjoying the vibe. Pretty good.
Talking about your single, Overload. We been listening into
it and we sensing a feel of peace, chill thing and the lyric were so up into
it. Perfect match between them. Is there any behind story the making of the
song?
Kev : Sebenernya the meaning behind the song is that has
many layers on it. Mainly when I talking with Josh, LineForEyes as the producer.
We wanted to make something for listeners could chill when they listen the
song. So, Josh came out with the chorus already, and I created the lyrics &
melodies dan akhirnya terbuatlah menjadi 1 lagu itu. For me personally, I want
to make the lyrics that people could put away their stress & I was also
talking about my passion in music. Beside making this song, I got lot things to
do in my work and I must control the time between my music project passion and
my job. Its also in first verse, ideally when you wake up in the morning and
you listening into birds chirping so clear. That’s kind of morning that I want.
No alarms, no more sadness, just having and living the positive life.
Who's your biggest inspirations in music ?
Kevin : I love Frank Ocean. He is such an amazing artist because
he sent clear messages in his every songs. He is being true to himself and he
is not afraid what people think of him. His last record, Blond, he purposely do
not submit it to Grammy Awards. I think it’s a statement from him that he don’t
need approvals from others. That’s something I very look up to when I do lot of
things in my life & work too. I do inspiring Christina Aguilera, she’s my
queen. I’ve been listening to her songs for whole my life. I really look up to
her and I love the fact that she empower women through her music. She so sure
with her messages to everyone. I love her.
Is there any new projects coming up from VVYND ?
Kevin : Yes, I will collaborating with other people and I cant
name them right now. I wish I could say it haha. Just a hint, one of them is in
Blue Room Boys tour. Hopefully I release my next song soon, because when I
listen the whole thing of my song, I feel like maybe I can keep it for a little
time. Not gonna release it now. Stay tune for it because I been working out to
make it happen.
You already working with Ismaya for 3 years, what do you think
about Indonesia’s music growth itself ?
Kevin : I think the music scene in Indonesia been grown so
much. As we can see, we had lot of new scenes in music. In Jakarta, there’s lot
of new talents too. For example, The Blue Room Boys session, it’s a new scene
and different. We can see emerging talents from there. By internet, we could
learn the musician abroad. We can learn their skill and ability to seek our
sounds too. Internet are helping the artists to grow up. There’s room for
everyone. That’s why in We The Fest, we always scouting new talents &
performance through submission and so Djakarta Warehouse Project by sending
their mixtape to get chance to perform. We know that there’s lot of people
coming to our festivals and we want to explore new talents to show their
performance into bigger audiences.
Make sure to catch VVYND performance in Ariel Nayaka &
The Blue Room Boys session this week on Surabaya & Jakarta !
